Livestock coalition marshals forces against extreme animal rights initiative

Proposed ballot initiative 2021-2022 #16, formerly known as the PAUSE Act, has been reviewed by the state’s title board and a title has been set.

The role of the title board is to set a clearly worded title that reflects the proponents’ intentions after determining that it meets the requirement of containing a single subject word of law. At the initial hearing, the title board does not and did not hear objections to the content or title language, and the board does not analyze the merit of the initiative.

Golden Gate Fields Files Lawsuit Against Animal Rights Protestors

Golden Gate Fields in Berkeley, Calif. has filed a lawsuit against the animal rights group Direct Action Everywhere in an effort to ban those activists from the racetrack grounds, reports The Mercury News. The track is also seeking $25,000 in damages, according to the suit filed March 9 by San Francisco-based firm Allen Matkins, Leck Gamble, Mallory & Nastia in the Alameda County Superior Court.

PAUSE: Ballot initiative to criminalize husbandry practices would cost consumers, limit food availability

A ballot initiative proposed, currently known as Protect Animals from Unnecessary Suffering and Exploitation (PAUSE), is awaiting an appearance before the title board after being filed with the Colorado Secretary of State. Proponents Alexander Sage of Broomfield, and Brent Johannes of Boulder, penned the proposed changes to the criminal cruelty to animal statutes. As written, the ballot initiative would include livestock and would criminalize some actions that are currently accepted animal husbandry practices.

Animal rights lawyer, 43, is charged in murder-for-hire plot after she ‘tried to have the girlfriend of her estranged husband who worked as the family au pair killed’

An animal rights attorney from Colorado is alleged to have attempted to hire a hitman to kill her estranged husband’s girlfriend, who had been the family’s au pair. 

Jennifer Emmi, 43, from Evergreen was arrested late last month on charges that include solicitation of murder, stalking and retaliating against a witness or victim.

To them, using animals is immoral and is comparable to slavery or child abuse. People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has compared eating chicken to the Holocaust, and argues that “it would have been in the animals’ best interests if the institution of ‘pet keeping’…never existed.”
