Hearing on Elephant Managment Tools in Rhode Island on Tuesday, April 15, 2014

We have learned that the House Judiciary Committee in Rhode Island has scheduled a hearing on House Bill 7192, which would prohibit the use of bullhooks and other elephant management tools in the state.  I have attached the bill text for your reference.

The following alert is posted on the CFA/OABA website at http://grassroots.circusfans.org/bill_detail.php?bill_id=149

Please forward this information to your contacts and supporters, especially anyone who resides in Rhode Island or does business in the state.  The Judiciary Committee is especially seeking input from Rhode Island residents/business owners.  At the end of the alert, there is a group list of the Committee members’ email address to make it easier for email communications; you can instruct your contacts to cut and paste the group into the “to” field of their emails.  The Committee member rosters and contact information is also available at http://webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/ComMembers/ComMemr.asp?ComChoiceR=HJUD (House) and http://webserver.rilin.state.ri.us/ComMembers/ComMemS.asp?ComChoiceS=SEAA (Senate).

In addition, if anyone is able to attend the hearing in Providence next Tuesday, please let us know and we can coordinate witnesses with the Committee staff.  Written testimony may be submitted to the Committee electronically prior to the hearing, and we would be happy to bring hard copies with us to distribute to the Committee members that day.  A definite time for the hearing has not been set yet, but we expect the hearing to begin sometime after 4:00PM.
